Pronouns and possessive forms

How to make possessive forms of pronouns and regular nouns:

Pronouns we memorize, though you do see some patterns throughout:

• I = நான்; my=என்
• you = நீ ; your = உன்
• you (polite or plural) = நீங்கள், your= உங்கள்
• we (exclusive)= நாங்கள், our=எங்கள்
• we (inclusive)= நாம், our= நம்
• he/his அவன்/இவன்;  theirs = அவர்கள்/இவர்கள்
• she/her அவள்/இவள்;  theirs = அவர்கள்/இவர்கள்
• he/she/his/her அவர்/இவர்;  theirs = அவர்கள்/இவர்கள்
• it (close, here)= இது; its=இதன்; theirs (neuter)=இவைகளுடைய
• it (far, over there)=அது; its=அதன்; theirs (neuter)= அவைகளுடைய

Regular and proper nouns seem to have two options:
Add the suffix "oodaya" or "in"
above we see that "it" uses "ளுடைய"
other examples: house= வீடு; house's = வீடின்
I am currently in the polling stage to find what the rules are.
When do you use "in" and when "oodaya"???
Are they essentially synonymous?

Possessive/Genitive form is expected in chapter 5 of Hart's Tamil for Beginner's though it is introduced without much explanation, and the accompanying grammar book does not have a section for it...
In Asher's Colloquial Tamil "ooda" is used to designate the possessive form: "peeraasiriyar professor; peeraasiriyaroo∂a professor’s."

More Future tense

According to Asher's Colloquial Tamil (Chapter 1 still), Future Tense is used to describe habitual actions, much as English uses present tense. The example:
"Do they drink sugar cane juice?"
Karumbu caaru kudipaangaalaa?"
"கரும்பு சாறு குடிபாங்காலா?"

Beginning working with Future Tense

I began with Future tense rather early on because Asher's Colloquial Tamil has an exercise in the first chapter asking if various people are going to the beach.

Because I learn better from seeing the actual grammar rules,  I go to Hart's Grammar Book, and look at Chapter 13 for Future Tense positive.

Basically, verb classes 1-4 add வ் to the dictionary form plus the personal pronoun ending. Class 5 adds ப் and Classes 6-7 add ப்ப். There is an exception for classes 5a and 5b which add உவ் instead of ப். (Now if only I had all the verbs and their classes memorized!) Some are available in one of the lists here.

3rd person future positive is irregular and does not add the normal 3rd person ending, instead it takes the infinitive and adds உம்.

So, some example verbs before going on to the Asher activity:

Future Positive of: வாங்கு (vaanku) "to buy"

வாங்குவேன் I will buy
வாங்குவய் you will buy (singular
வாங்குவீர்கள் you will buy (plural or polite)
வாங்குவான் he will buy
வாங்குவாள் she will buy
வாங்குவார் he/she will buy
வாங்குவார்கள் they will buy
வாங்கும் it/they(it) will buy

Future Positive of: பார் (paar) "to see"

பார்ப்பேன் I will see
பார்ப்பாய் you will see
பார்ப்பீர்கள் you will see
பார்ப்பான் he will see
பார்ப்பாள் she will see
பார்ப்பார் he/she will see
பார்ப்பார்கள் they will see
பார்க்கும் it/they(it) will see

Asher's activity uses போ, a class 3 verb, so I should add வ் + the normal ending.
